Stellar Communities Pilot Program - Letter of Interest Submitted

On Wednesday, February 27, 2013 Mayor York submitted the Stellar Communities Pilot Program - Letter of Interest (LOI) to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs entering the 2013 selection process for funding.

Indiana's Stellar Communities is offering the program for a third year and is "a first of its kind collaboration between the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)."

Mayor York and members of his Stellar Communities Development Team attended a meeting on February 21 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, obtaining information on the program and submitting the letter of interest. The letter of interest spells out New Castle's plans to create a Stellar Community, New Castle's proposed community investment and the needed assistance from Stellar Communities.

Next is the evaluation of the letter of interest, which must include a variety of components.  New Castle's plan will be compared to submissions from other Indiana cities and the announcement of the 6-8 finalists will be revealed on March 15, 2013.

Mayor York is excited by the plan and the prospects of Stellar Communities assisting New Castle.
