Board of Works Meeting Minutes - 8/6/2012

BOARD OF WORKS

 

August 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.

 

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Greg York.

 

 

ORDER OF BUSINESS:

 

·         Director Tichenor moved to suspend the rules for the reading of the minutes and accept last week's BOW minutes.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Mayor York requested a motion to accept the Payroll, Water, Wastewater and General fund claims for the week of July 30 to August 6, 2012.   Director Tichenor moved to accept.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Director Tichenor reminded Police and Street departments of the Skyvue Festival scheduled for August 26, 2012 in regards to barricades.

·         Request presented for crosswalk approval on New York Avenue submitted by Jeff Smiley.  Director Tichenor moved to approve crosswalk per Building Inspector Frame and GIS Director Hill's specifications.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Request for approval of quotes and award of paving of Transit Building parking lot project.  Director Tichenor moved to award the project to Milestone in the amount of  $52,380.00.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Request for approval of quotes and award of roof project at the Transit Building.  Director Tichenor moved to award the project to John's Quality Builders in the amount of $22500.00.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Request for approval of the renewal of the Humana Insurance contract.  Commissioner Ayers moved to approve the renewal effective 1/1/13.  Director Tichenor seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Request for approval of the renewal of the city liability insurance with Selective Insurance.  Director Tichenor moved to approve the renewal effective 8/6/12.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         Request a motion for approval of the street closing for the Zombie Walk at Baker Park on September 15th.  Director Tichenor moved to approve the request for barricades, noting the Street and Police Departments need to contact them for clarification.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

·         HR Director Thornhill presented claim #1 of the INDOT Sign Grant in the amount of $252.60 for consulting fees for approval.  Director Tichenor moved to approve payment.  Commissioner Ayers seconded.  Motion carried 3-0

 

MAYOR REPORTS

 

·         Mayor York informed all in attendance that Craig Mauger, reporter for The Courier Times had accepted another position in Michigan and wanted to thank him for his excellent reporting of city functions. Craig thanked city administration for their cooperation.

 

DEPARTMENT HEAD REQUESTS  

 

·         No reports presented.

 

CITIZENS APPEARING:

 

·         Julie Hankins representing Little Red Door, requested permission to do a "bucket shake" on August 25.  After discussion, Ms. Hankins was referred to Kroger and Wal-Mart for best collections.  Ms. Hankins thanked the Board of Works for their recommendations.
