New Castle Mayor Greg York, members of the New Castle Parks Board and assorted volunteers hosted a community picnic Saturday in Baker Park.
The event, a fundraiser to help pay for park improvements, featured food from several local vendors. There was also a ceremony to rename shelter house No. 1 in honor of former New Castle resident and World War II veteran Richard Leitch, the unveiling of a new handicap-accessible water fountain and a check presentation from New Castle Elks No. 484 in the amount of $2,000. An area DJ provided music throughout the afternoon.
