Tour of Lights set for Dec. 21

New Castle Community Transit is again making it easier for local residents to see the Christmas lights on display around town. General Manager Doug Sloan said municipal buses will provide transportation for a tour of lights the evening of Dec. 21.

“We’ll be picking up people and then meeting at Maplewood Apartments at 6 o’clock to go around the city and give everyone a chance to see all the Christmas lights,” Sloan told members of the New Castle Board of Works Monday morning.

The plan is to check with The Courier-Times and other local sources to determine where the best light displays can be found. A route will then be formulated to give attendees the best opportunities to see the festive seasonal displays.

The cost for participating is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

This is the second consecutive year for the tour of lights. Sloan said last year’s inaugural event was well received by the approximately 80 people who participated.

“Our buses are all handicap accessible and hold 18 passengers each,” he said. “We had six buses taking people around last year. I invite everyone to ride along because we hope to have an even better turn out this year than we did last year.”

The tour will likely take about an hour to complete. Sloan said if there is a need, a second circuit of the city will be made.
