Baker Park will close nightly at 10 p.m. until further notice, New Castle Police Chief Brad Catron said Friday. This includes the basketball courts.
Juveniles and young adults have made those walking around the park feel uneasy, Catron said. Older children have run younger ones out of the F.U.N. park, and litter isn’t making it to the trash cans. A sign recently placed in the park declaring it drug, alcohol, and tobacco free was torn down, but resurfaced later.
Since Thursday, extra patrols have been assigned to ticket those loitering, trespassing or littering.
“We are taking the park back,” Catron said. “We have to do something. I don’t know what other solutions we have, and it’s a shame for people who do use the park properly. We are trying to clean New Castle up and we aren’t having it anymore.”
