City Council Meeting Minutes - 8/6/2012

COMMON COUNCIL 

 

August 6, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.            

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was given by everyone in attendance.           

 

Prayer was given by Andrew Denny of Turning Point Life Center.

SPECIAL BUSINESS:

 

·        Councilman Peckinpaugh moved to suspend and accept the minutes of the last meeting.  Council-lady York seconded.  Motion carried 7-0

 

PROCLAMATIONS:

 

·        No Proclamations were read.

 

RESOLUTIONS:

 

·        #080612-1 - Transit Act Resolution

 

Councilman Koger read and moved to approve the Transit Act Resolution.  Council-lady York seconded.  Motion carried 7-0

 

 

ORDINANCES:

 

·        No Ordinance were presented.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

·        Council-lady York requested clarification on Animal Control responsibilities in regard to abandoned animals and threatening animals.  Director Tichenor informed council the agreement with Animal Control was due for renewal and their concerns would be taken to the negotiation.

·        Councilman Ingerman requested copies of the city code regarding yard sales.  Clerk York informed Councilman Ingerman there was a link on the city website to city codes.  Clerk York stated she would send the link via email.

·        Councilman Reid and Councilman Kidd brought up issues in regards to defacing city signs and graffiti on buildings.  Mayor York noted the locations and requested assistance from Hope Initiative in painting over the graffiti.

·        Councilman Peckinpaugh commended Mayor York for the security updates at the Park and Pool, noting that citizens need to assist in patrolling the parks.

  

MAYOR REPORTS:

 

·        Mayor York informed council of the recent vandalism in the Parks and updated them on the security upgrade.  Mayor York noted that the new slides are ready to be installed as soon as the security is up and running.

·        Mayor York informed council that The Courier Times reporter Craig Mauger had accepted a position in Michigan and this would be his last council meeting.  Everyone in attendance thanked Mr. Mauger for his reporting of New Castle and Henry County noting he would be greatly missed.

 

CITIZENS REQUESTS:

 

·        Eddie Hagar, Norma Dishman and Cristian Miller all of New Castle each individually expressed their opinions regarding the tree trimming of Trojan Lane and the wooded area. 

 

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:

 

·        No reports were presented.
